So in my writing class today I was giving a grammar lesson, and we were talking about how if you talk about two people you need two articles (a man and a woman) but if you're talking about one person with different characteristics, you only need one article (a student and part-time employee). So in one of my examples the students had to choose between "a lawyer and a rock star" and "a laywer and rock star," and one of the students answered that it must be "a laywer and a rock star," as in two people, because people aren't generally both lawyers and rock stars. At which point another student piped up, "But what about that cartoon? Jem? She was a business woman and a rock star." So there went my grammar lesson! It was so funny. Anybody else remember Jem? I used to play Jem with my cousins, and of course I got to be Jem and my little sister had to be the Misfit. Keep in mind that this student was born in 1989, and she still knew this.

Anyway. Random memory for the day. Is it Christmas yet?

Jess
