Kiersten and Elisa,

I have enjoyed your messages cheering each other up. I have also been depressed after coming back. We haven't had too much snow, just cold rain (in the city anyway). I (almost) would rather have snow because then I'd be less wet!

So I need some help from you guys. One of the New York state standards for English is that students read 25 books a year (yeah right!), so in order to get closer to that goal, I want to assign students a book to read on their own. But I don't want them to completely choose their own books, because I want them to read something meaningful. I'm looking to compile a book list that students can choose from to do their reports. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions of books for 9th graders.

Jess
