And I have a totally random story to tell about a monkey:

A man I work with, Chuck, decided last Saturday to clean out his wife's car that was filled with all kinds of kid-junk. McDonald's happy meal figures, half eaten granola bars, etc. He was annoyed that it was so dirty and couldn't see any value to keeping all that stuff so he just tossed it all into the garbage.

Well, the next morning his wife came downstairs and asked, "have you seen a little toy monkey?" Chuck couldn't remember if there was a monkey among the things he'd thrown away but the monkey's last known location had apparently been the car.

Chuck's wife responded, "That monkey belongs to Mrs. So-and-so's class (their 5 year old son's teacher). It's been part of the class for 3 years and every week goes home with a different child and the child writes stories about the monkey's adventures. This was our week to have it." (By the way, the monkey's name is Chunky Monkey.)

So Chuck, being a man, says "well lets just go buy a new monkey."

His wife, being female and a mom says "Absolutely not!" And she heads out to the garbage can to look for Chunky Monkey.

To Chuck's credit, he came out to the garbage can with a shovel to help his wife search for the lost animal. And luckily, they finally found it, protected from a banana peel by a piece of newspaper.

Chunky Monkey headed back to school with their son on Monday, complete with a written adventure tale of how Dad threw Chunky Monkey in the garbage. That afternoon Chuck went to pick up his son and when he walked into the classroom, the entire class of kindergarteners boo'd him. I saw Chuck a little while later and he told me this story, including the remark that "it doesn't help my self esteem much to be boo'd by a bunch of 5 year olds."

:)
