Hi everybody,
I have finished my world travels (4 time zones in 2 weeks must be some kind of record) and have arrived back home in New York City. I am adjusting to the smog and garbage. :) Just kidding. It's nice to finally get back to normal life, although suddenly my apartment seems very SMALL. Okay, so we always knew it was small, it just seemed more liveable before. So I'm itching to get out. Anyone want to hire a lawyer and a teacher?
So the big news here in the city (besides my return, of course, which was on the cover of the Times) is how all of the Republicans are coming. Apparently EVERY Republican in the world is coming to New York and they are going to TAKE OVER the city. Or at least you would think so if you believed the news. It's quite ridiculous. People are freaking out, leaving the city, and planning big protests that are going to destroy the beautiful lawn at Central Park. (Apparently that's the new social agenda of Democrats. How can we help under-privileged kids? Let's destroy the only grass in the city!) Okay, enough sarcasm. It's just all kind of silly. You'd think there was never a convention here before. I mean, besides the security issues (which, come on, New Yorkers, aren't you USED to it by now?) it's no different from the Star Trek Convention. :)
So to avoid all of the Republicans, I'm going to stay in my apartment and try to organize my teaching stuff from last year so I'm ready for this year (which starts on Sept 13th) and volunteer at freshmen orientation. Don't worry, if anything happens, we just got 72-hour-kits and replaced our free-2-years-ago cell phones for ones that actually work. So I'll give you a call as we're eating our calorie bars and watching the New York Democrats and the Texas Republicans get into a gang fight. :)
