Hello to all--first time posting--I went on line today sorta accidently looking for a group like this. I've loved BTVS for many years--went from a casual fan 2,3,4,5 to avid in 6 and 7 except for the finale which I thought was a disaster in writing--pasting on ideas, putting words in her mouth that had no foundation in canon--using the potentials as cannon fodder, making quips over the dust of thier dead friends (hey 9/11 hasn't been that far away)in short--it has left me wondering, seriously wondering about who joss REALLY was/is. What he really stood for. Is he really, in the end all about harvesting the heartbreak? The hearts blood of over 4 million people, I'm betting mostly female on the sacrificial alter of his hidden ajenda.

SO. I spent the summer healing my heart, discovered the amazing world of fanfic--I see a lot of people out ther have been trying to reclaim the contemporary myth for years. Reclaim the myth and reward our heros for thier efforts. Love it so much, love fanfic writers so much for taking on corporate structure and claiming their hearts back.

So I'm feeling much better and then it slips at work--some spoilers from Angel--and I literaly felt something pierce my heart...yet again.

What I'm saying is--nobody can be that good of a storyteller and not be doing it on purpose.

So what do you think? Is Joss just a sellout--all about the corporate line--ANYTHING to keep the series on the air, anything to keep personal growth to a minimum? Do you realize how many reality t.v. shows are all out there--all doing their very best to show people at their worst. And most other t.v. shows show people as insipid and unfaithful and unable to aspire to anything higher then they're own predatory appetites.

What IS his agenda?

Because the words I have heard him use in interviews certainly don't show up in the work.

And now BTVS and Angel show themselves no better, nay worse than your average soap opera--because they hold so many hearts in one hand, and have the power of squeezing them simultanously on a single night at the same time. Does anyone realize the power of collective thought?

So who is Joss really? Has he poisened us--well actually we know that, we can all feel it, the answer is yes--but has/is it intentional? Has he made a series about dealing with monsters because he has an aspect of the torturer whithin himself?

The answer, we may never know--but I encourage everyone out there to consider that if you are feeling pain--than something has struck you. Don't ignore how it makes you feel. If watching Spike's fall from grace hurts you as much as it hurts me--DON'T WATCH.

I think something is seriously wrong with Joss's storytelling ethic. In the sacred art of the storyteller--one may open up another to do surgery--character's get disembowed, pain happens, I get that, I want that in my storytelling, life is very hard--but NEVER open sombody up if you don't have the time or intrest in stitchng them back together. (Of course here I mean the finale--absolutely no one I know liked that travesty) And I don't mean death or pain--I mean providing a means to transmute the pain into somehting one can learn from.

And have a character's depth of feeling mean something real. What? Angel had been in love with Cordy for years and now she was just someone he was 'used to having around'. I'm paraphrasing something I heard DB say in an interview--so you know Joss must have directed him that way.

O.k. now I'm getting off topic. sorry. I'm just so sick of love being treated like somehting you can just 'get over' It is a metaphysical relationship with God for god's sake--and t.v. always advocates 'moving on.' Just for once I would actualy like to see the process of 'moving on'--baby it can take years, or do I just belong on a different planet? I don't recognize anyone from these shows anymore as anyone I could ever know. I guess just had higher hopes for BTVS. Could just be me projecting.

I don't wanna do spoilers so I can't say anything more.

O.k. I'm really done now. Thanks for listening.
I really needed to do that.

Lissa
