Well, Jay is a friend of mine and being honest with my friends, I have told him the same. I do realize that there is some sort of relationship there (with the romance), but at the same time, I think the FX really overwhelm the viewer that it's essentially non-existent. Basically, one gets overwhelmed into "ooh that's awesome...ooh look at that" instead of paying attention to the lyrics and scene selection which is somewhat there.

In case you haven't already figured it out, I am *big* on concept and scene selection. I use FX only when they enhance the concept or scene.

At the same time, Jay has explained things to me and having not seen Rah Xephon, I can understand his feelings. Basically, to him, there *is* something there and well...utltimately, if he's happy with it and it means something to him...that's all that should matter and I can understand his frustration with people arguing about it and n00bs wnating to be like him without realizing he did put heart into it and not just FX.

As for your other assumption about other creators, that's kind of what I was alluding to. I can't tell you how many threads I have read about people asking what program he uses and myself or Trythil responding that "it's the editor, not the program."

So yeah...I do agree that it is over-rated, but at the same time enjoy it quite a bit (not my favorite like everyone else) and I know that Jay himself is kind of sick of all the bickering that people have about it.

At the same time, it must be noted that I am a bit biased since I am generally a more simple editor and focus on different things. The best part is that he and I were both up for "Best of Show" at ACen2003 and our videos are the complete opposite in our editing techniques. Mine relies more on a romance story/fairy tale with maybe one or two FX (a mask & black and white filter), while his has literally hundreds of FX. Funny how we both lost to a video not even nominated for best of show, but we won't go into that :-P.

If you get a chance, feel free to check it out. Then again, don't check out my "Evolution" video since it was my FX video...mostly to learn them

/me is scared for all the Euphoria-clones (i.e. massive masking).

-Daniel ^_^
