*******************************

Theresa had no luck in finding Ethan. She searched everywhere for him. At the mansion,
down at the wharf, over at the book cafe, and even at her old grade school where they
shared their first dance. He seemed to have left town without a trace.

"Maybe he just doesn't want to be found." Theresa said to herself as she headed back to
Whitney's house.

Not two hours later Theresa and Whitney were back on a plane heading to New York.
Chad had promised to come down as soon as he got a chance too. There was no way they
would let something as good as this pass them by.

Terri was happy for her friend, but couldn't show her enthusiasm as much as she wanted.
All she wanted was a chance to finally tell Ethan how she felt.

She loved him. She didn't want Steven.

"Damn him for ruining any chance of me and Ethan ever being together." She cried to
herself.

Whitney reached over and took her friend’s hand.

“Are you okay honey?” She said with a gentle pat.

Theresa looked her friend in the eyes and lied.

“Yes Whit. I’m fine. Some things are just not meant to be. You think I would be use to this by now.”

Whitney looked confused by her friend’s words.

“Use to?” She said with a crinkle in her brow.

“Well, yeah. Things don’t work out entirely the way I want them to when it comes to men. I’ve always been hurt one way or the other, and losing Ethan is just another one of those times.”

The tears began to well up in her eyes. They stung at the corners to escape. She lifted a finger to stop the inevitable, but the more she tried, the more they fell.

Whitney reached in her bag and pulled out a tissue. She handed it to her knowing it wouldn’t be enough. The tissue might be able to stop the tears, but it wouldn’t make the pain in her heart cease.

When Terri and Whitney reached their dorm, they stood in line to register. This was their final year on campus. So many memories flooded the halls and rooms where they spent the last four years growing into womanhood.

But the most amazing memories were spent in the small town of Harmony this summer. Theresa began to remember the first day she and Ethan met that day at the book café.

She had been hurt by Steven, and vowed to rid her life of all men.

Then Ethan walked in, just as cocky, and stuck up thinking the world revolved only around him.

Awful words came from his lips about Theresa, and she knew he was definitely one man she would stay away from. But then sitting on the couch at the Book Café one day changed it all.

Ethan’s presence began to seduce her. The walls around her began to fall as she let him into her sacred place. His eyes, his lips, his whole being got to her. Not only did he haunt her mind, but he invaded her heart.

She held up a defense as long as she could, but couldn’t deny that she wanted him as much as he wanted her.

“So many memories.” She whispered to herself. “So much heart-break.”

***************************

Once settled in their room, Whitney pulled out her cell phone to call Chad. She didn’t want to upset her friend, so she stepped out into the hall.

“You couldn’t last a whole day without hearing my voice eh?” Chad began to chuckle on the other end.

Whitney laughed. “Oh you know you were waiting on this called, so don’t even trip.”

Whitney’s smile suddenly turn down as she thought about her friend’s heartache.

“Chad, I have to ask you something.” The crinkle in her brow began to form once again.

Chad turned away from the noise at the book café to hear her more clearly.

“Sure baby, what is it?”

“Well, before Terri and I left Harmony, Ethan came to my house looking for her, and he found her in the room with her old boyfriend.”

“Oh yeah, I heard about that.” Chad interrupted.

“OMG! Then you’ve heard from Ethan?”

Whitney’s voice began to sound more urgent. “Please Chad, tell me where he is. Theresa cried all the way back to New York. She’s devastated without him.”

“I was afraid she would be hurt when he left Harmony.”

“Chad, where is he? Why did he leave? Where did he go?” Whitney begged.

“Calm down Whit! He’s okay. He over heard Steven and Theresa talking in Simone’s bedroom. He knows she loves him and not Steven.”

“Then why did he leave? What is his motive for making her feel so horrible?”

Whitney’s voice became angry knowing that Terri was going through unwanted pain.

“Whit, Whit, Whit, listen to me. Ethan knew that interrupting Steven and Theresa wasn’t the right thing. He wanted Steven to know from her that it was finally over, and he didn’t want to add to their closure.”

“Okay, I understand that, but I don’t get why he left town.”

“Well, that’s the best part about this whole ordeal. And here’s where you come in at.”

Whitney’s smile broadened as she listened to Ethan’s plan from Chad. She knew that this would change her friend’s life forever, and that happiness with Ethan would fill her heart for the rest of her life.

********************************

When Whitney entered the room, she was so certain the smile on her face would give Ethan’s plan away. Theresa could always read her friend’s facial expression. She even knew that her and Chad would be more than just mere acquaintances. Lucky for her, Theresa had fallen asleep on her bed in the middle of unpacking.

Whitney walked over to her and pulled her blanket out of one of her suitcases and spread it over her body. She noticed a faint smile on her face as she slept away her heartbreak.

Theresa sat at her desk and opened up her schedule book. She wanted to bury herself in her schoolwork and not think about Ethan. It was hopeless. He was probably somewhere far away on business thinking that she didn’t love him.

She shook thoughts of him out of her mind as she noticed that she had a finance class at 9am the next morning. How could she not think of him? His touch, and his kiss pulled at the strings of her heart and soul.

“Ugh! I have to get you out of my mind Ethan Crane.”

Theresa stood up from her desk and walked over to her makeup bag and pulled a pink scrunchee out along with her brush. She sat on the edge of her bed and began to brush her hair back pulling it into a ponytail.

She noticed a little note on Whitney’s bed telling her that she had gone out for a while and would be back in a few.

“Maybe I should take a walk myself to clear my head.” She said to herself.

She kicked off her footies and put on a pair of sandles. She grabbed her purse and opened her dorm room door.

She rubbed her eyes to make sure the vision that stood before her was real.

“Ethan!”
Theresa’s purse fell to the floor. Ethan reached down and picked it up and handed it to her.

“Hi Terri.”

Theresa and Ethan stood there for a minute looking at each other endlessly, their hearts pounding.

Theresa finally broke what seemed like hours of silence.

“Ethan, I thought I would never see you again. I thought after you saw Steven and me together that it was over for us.”

Ethan stepped fully into the room and pulled her close to him.

“I love you Terri and no one can ever stop me from doing so.”

Theresa placed her purse down on her chair and turned her back to Ethan. She wasn’t sure what to think. Was he telling her the truth? Could there actually be love and happiness in their future?

She wanted to believe him with her whole heart, but there was a bit of doubt controlling her mind. She was never lucky in love, and she wasn’t sure if this pass summer was just a fairy tale dream.

Ethan walked up behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders.

“Terri, please don’t doubt my love for you. Please know that I want a future with you and only you.”

Theresa turned in his arms and looked up at him.

“I know you love me Ethan. I can feel it. But I’m afraid that our love won’t last. I’m afraid that I’ll be hurt once again.”

“Terri, you have to believe that I’ll never hurt you or leave you. You mean the world to me, and I want to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much. I just need to know that you love me too. Tell me Theresa. Tell me you love me.”

Theresa looked up at Ethan with love in her eyes. It was the moment of truth, and she was ready to reveal all.

“Ethan when we first met, I knew in my heart that you weren’t the one for me. I just didn’t imagine falling for a stuck up rich kid from the mansion on the hilltop.”

Ethan gave a slight smile.

“But then we started spending time together, and I knew there was much more than met the eye. You broke through barriers that were built on dishonesty and hurt. I still can’t believe I let you get as close to me as you did.”

Ethan’s smile widened as he heard expressions of love coming from his soul mate.

She placed her arms tightly around his waist and finally spoke the words he waited to hear for so long.

“I love you Ethan Crane. I’ve loved you since you asked me to dance at that grade school party so many years ago.”

“Oh Theresa.” Ethan said grabbing her into a long passionate kiss. He managed to flow out words of love to her as well as they continued devouring one another with kisses.

Ethan pulled back as Theresa drunkenly opened her eyes as to why. She looked up at him and thought this was the most perfect night of her life. She was finally with the man she loved and was ready to express that love in that very moment.

Ethan pulled the scrunchee from her hair and tossed it aside as her hair fell to the sides of her neck.

He pulled one side to the other, and began teasing her with kisses, tingling her neck as well as her whole body.

“Oh Ethan make love to me.” She manage to say before he picked her up and walked her over placing her down on her undressed bed.

“Are you sure?” He groaned knowing that it would be hard for him to stop if she would to say no.

“Yes Ethan, I’m sure. I want you right now. Make love to me.”

Ethan’s kisses became more urgent as he brushed her hair from her face. He wanted her so badly and nothing or no one would stop this moment from happening.

“Terri, oh Terri.”

Theresa loved hearing him call out to her in such a passionate moment. This was a dream come true for her. She couldn’t get enough of him saying her name over and over again.

“Oh Ethan.” She cried.

“Terri! Terri!”

Theresa sat up from her bed breathlessly and stared Whitney in the face. Then she looked around and saw that she had only been dreaming of Ethan.

“Oh Whit, it’s you. I thought you were…” Theresa faded out.

“Oh honey, you thought I was Ethan calling your name?”

Theresa shook her head slightly in respond.

Whitney sat down beside her. “I’m so sorry honey. I didn’t mean to interrupt your dream. I know how much you miss and love him. I just wish you could’ve told him that in Harmony.”

“Yes, I know. I love him so much, and now I may not ever get the chance to tell him so.”

“I’m sure you will Terri. I saw the way Ethan looked at you. I don’t believe for a second that he would give up on his love for you.”

“Maybe he would if he thought I didn’t love him in return.”

“Terri please! The whole town of Harmony saw how much you love him. I’m sure deep down he knew.”

“I don’t know Whit. If that is true, then why did he disappear? Why would he let me leave Harmony without saying goodbye to him?”

Terri stood from her bed and walked over to check her schedule book.

“I’m just going to put Ethan out of my mind and focus on my classes.” She said waving her hands.

“Well, that’s no way to live. In fact, there’s a cool party in the village tonight, and I thought that would be a great place to start our senior year.”

“No Whit. I have to get up early tomorrow, and staying out late partying wouldn’t be a great way to start off early morning classes.”

“Well you know what dear, I’m not taking no for an answer. So get dressed, and meet me down stairs in thirty minutes.” And on that note she left the room.

Theresa thought to herself that this wasn’t the best thing for her, but she went along anyway.

As Theresa and Whitney approached an intersection of a busy street, they noticed people looking up at the Trinitron in Time Square. They became intrigued with their oohs and ahhs that they too looked up as well.

Whitney’s smiled beamed, and Theresa couldn’t believe what she was reading right there just as big and bold.

************

MARRY ME TERRI! I LOVE YOU WITH MY WHOLE HEART. –ETHAN!

************

Theresa couldn’t believe her eyes. Ethan hadn’t run far from her, but just the opposite. He ran to her.

Whitney pulled tissue happily from her purse this time and handed it to her friend. But before she could reach for it, a man’s handkerchief replaced it.

Theresa quickly turned around to face a blissful Ethan.

“Hi Terri.” He said smiling from ear to ear.

“Oh Ethan, I can’t believe you did this.”

Ethan grabbed her and pulled her close. “I love you so much Terri, and I can’t imagine living another day without you. Please make me the happiest man in the world and become my wife.”

“Oh Ethan, I love you so much. Yes, oh yes I will marry you. I want to spend the rest of my life by your side, loving you.”

Ethan took the handkerchief and wiped away her tears.

“I love you too Terri. And I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy.”

Just then he pulled her into what seemed like another world. The passion exploded between them that night, and Theresa knew that she would never find heartache again.

For she had fallen in love with the one man who only had eyes for her.

The End!
