PARTICULAR SPECIFICATION
FOR
LOW VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND (VOC) PAINT


1. This Particular Specification is to be read in conjunction . with the General Specification for Building by Architectural Services Department , Hong Kong, 2003 Edition. The Contractor shall use Low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) paint for the Works as order by the Maintenance Surveyor in works Orders issued under the Contract or as directed by the Maintenance Surveyor.


2. The VOC. content of the paint products should not exceed the following maximum level.

3. Manufacturer's technical information including VOC content in grams/litre should be submitted to the Maintenance Surveyor for approval.


4. The VOC content of paint shall be determined by recognized method e.g. in accordance with BS EN ISO 11890-1 :2001, BS3900 - A24:2000. Laboratory test report shall be required to be produced by the Contractor for proof of the VOC content of the paint. Trial sample of the painting work is required if considered necessary by the Maintenance Surveyor.


5. Flat paints are those with the specular gloss level less than 5 and non-flat paints are those with specular gloss level 5 or greater. The gloss reading will be determined by ASTM D523- 89 , Standard Test Method for Specular Gloss
