切尼訪問世貿廢墟 附近金融大廈將陸續開放


【本報訊】星期四，在“911”事件後很少公開露面的副總統切尼又重新回到了公眾注目的聚光燈前。

據“CNN”有線電視新聞網10月18日報導，在發生恐怖襲擊後被保安人員送到白宮地下掩蔽室和指揮所的切尼，在星期四下午首次來到世貿大廈廢墟。

星期三，在布什總統動身前往中國之前，切尼陪伴布什出現在白宮前。上周，切尼大部份的時間都是在掩蔽室以外工作，大部份時間都未出頭露面。

比起當初布什來時的情景，世貿大廈廢墟的場景已有很多變化。布什總統是在“911”事件後第三天來到廢墟的，他當時手執喇叭站在一個殘骸堆的頂上，贊揚和鼓動在現場的救援人員。目前清理人員已經搬走了34萬噸水泥，鋼筋和其他殘骸。殘骸堆每天都在縮小一點。

“1號自由大廈”，這幢直接位於世貿原址對面的摩天大樓預計將於下周一重新開放，工商界的領袖們說，這也標志著下城金融區重生的開始。

“紐約下城聯盟”的總裁韋斯布魯德說，這棟五十三層高的樓宇將是這個區域中第一個重新開始的大樓。

在發生“911”事件後，紐約市將該大樓用於支持緊急救援行動的處所。原來在該大樓內辦公的機構有納斯達克証券市場管理辦公室、高盛証券公司和諾瓦斯科雪銀行等。

附近的1號、2號和4號世界金融中心等樓宇也在准備重新開張。

韋斯布魯德說：“這些重開的樓宇都是非常非常重要的大樓，這些大樓都有著許多極為高質量的租戶。我們能越快讓這些公司回來并重新穩定他們的相鄰關系，就對我們大家越有益。”

他也提出，附近有三棟辦公樓未來如何尚難預料。但他說，一些重要大樓的重開將會對下城有廣泛影響。
