Inside, a number of tents and rough-cut cabns housed several hundred houshould troops, servants and various other retainers, all of whom carried modern--and effective--lasers and plasma rifles. In the cleared plains surrounding the camp, where enslaved natives toiled plowing fields to feed their new "civilizing" masters, more guards rode on patrol, mounted on their riding lizards, armed with shimmering armor and the same energey weapons as the guards. Star Trek meets Little House on the Prarie. Tired, bedraggled, the patrol that Unit Three had chased off had finally dragged itself back--empty-handed.
