...that the only loss this year by Denton Ryan was to Ennis at Fouts Field in Denton? The final score was Ennis 21, Denton Ryan 14. Should be an interesting re-match this weekend.
...that Marlin, a 3A school, with a total enrollment of 482 students, knocked off the defending 4A State Champion, Ennis, a school with 1,348 students. All of Marlin's 20 points were scored off Ennis turnovers. Marlin scored 13 points in the 4th quarter. That is the only blemish this year on Ennis' record.
...that Longview won 10 games and lost 4 times this year, 3 to the same team...Lufkin, the defending State Champ and to playoff team Tyler Lee, 28-21, a team they beat 31-14 a few weeks later. They won over Shreveport Evangel, ranked #1 in the Nation and at Ruston. The coach at Longview is from Louisiana.
...that Lufkin has wins over playoff teams Katy, Aldine Eisenhower, North Mesquite, Allen, Klein Forest, and has beaten Longview 3 times. Their only losses? Both to Tyler Lee 21-14 and 21-20 three weeks later. Record? 12-2.
...that Tyler John Tyler lost their coach to playoff-bound Dallas Carter. After losing to the defending State Champ, Garland, they dispatched their next 3 opponents. Then they ran into that screwy UIL home-and-away district schedule, losing six straight to playoff teams Tyler Lee, Lufkin, and Longview. Result? Six straight losses, season over at 3-7.
