Subject: Critiquing (yes it has been harped on enough)

This is just a responce from the end of the class's comments on how much people critique and who actually speaks in the class yada yada. Personally, I feel that many of the stories I read draw me completely into the narrative (most, not all, but I'll get to that later on). However, most of your narratives I've encountered are completely new to me, so quite frankly, I'm a)encountering a new writing form and style b) learning about the restrictions and bonuses to the form and style and c) trying to learn an appropriate system to critique the work (and usually I don't reach c at all most of the time) Let's face it, most of us are well read but in different areas. My area of interest is obviously fantasy (and some sci-fi) but quite frankly the only writing I've been able to get close to critiquing with ease is Sheila's (sorry Sheila, I really like your writing stlye). So if people wonder why the same people are usually talking its probably because the others are still struggling to figure out how to critique a new writing style/genre (well, I am anyways). And like the issue was rasied in class, you can't just say that you dislike something without reason's why. So what I guess I'm trying to say is that sure, I'll offer my opinion or imput in a couple of sentences or two, but unless it's fanatasy genre, cut me some slack. I don't have any english behind me, so the termanology and speedy thought process just isn't there.
That said, I'll go to another post . . .
