I just keep thinking that the JA started off being good - I mean, there seemed to be good motivations behind it.

Noel doesn't seem to believe in miracles himself. There were miracles going on in the JA - I experienced miraculous healing myself. Other people might have been healed, but no-one ever listens to the tiny little people, so even if they get healed, no-one really notices or cares too much anyway. So other people might have been healed as well, for all we know.

You shouldn't want to be the boss of the world. The Lord of the Rings was about someone trying to be the boss of the world, it always goes wrong when people try to do that. The person might start off by being nice, but the power makes them go all wrong. Other people might try to tell the person that they are going wrong, but the person gets so surrounded by yes men that they can't hear them. The only way to deal with power is to give it back to the person who it belongs to, and that's God. Otherwise, it makes you go all funny. That's what Tolkien said, at any rate, and he was a very clever man. C.S.Lewis said it too. He was friends with Tolkien, so was the one who wrote The Water Babies. They all knew each other.
