Look at the terms you use. Ian Huntly was not "allowed" to rape people; he was "able" to do so.

Presumably you don't think that Huntley should have been discriminated against on the basis of innuendo and allegations?

I have had a great deal of experience of dealing with multi-agency referrals and it is nonsense to say that the police and social services do nothing when there is real evidence of a crime having been committed.

True, cases are often dropped or not pursued, but not as you suggest, because the authorities are themselves corrupt (or themselves involved in abuse rings) but because the CPS knows that evidence won't hold up in court.

CRB checks only reveal convictions and without those a man is presumed innocent.

Only the other day colleagues and I were talking about that terrible case of a TV presented whose career was blighted when a rape allegation was made against him. It was investigated and no case was found by the police and I believe the allegant's credibility was questioned when it was found that she had accused another innocent man out of malice before.

If we follow your logic, the very fact that this man had been accused of rape makes him guilty. And presumably you think this means that he is now "ALLOWED to rape".

The reason Ian Huntley could work in a school was that he had never been convicted of anything. But you seem to be saying that every person who has ever had an allegation against them should be presumed guilty and banned from schools, etc? If so, you would have to ban most teachers (for whom a threat of a malicious allegation by a rebellious kid is a regular feature of the job).

My experience is that if you refer a case to social services and have a credible suspicion they leap into action straight away. My last case (two weeks ago) they were at the school the same afternoon and they and safeguarding/police saw the child and the parent that day and took appropriate action.

I have nothing but respect for these guys, who take it all very seriously indeed. I find them fantastically professional.
