I think that labels can be very helpful, as long as they are given after a properly conducted consultation and diagnosis by a person who is properly qualified in that paricular field.

My son was only diagnosed with Aspergets after a two week consultation - he was observed all day for two weeks in a clinic with special windows, so that the doctor could see him, but he was unable to see the doctor. The doctor who diagnosed him was Dr Chacrabarti, who was considered to be the national expert in the UK of Autism at that time. I almost did not give my consent to this consultation as I was convinced that there was nothing up with my son. I think that is probably because aspergers is so prevalent in our family that to me my son's behaviour did not seem odd. I am very relieved that we were lucky to have this doctor in our area at the time, because my son has certainly benefitted from being able to attend a slower paced and more relaxed special school, he is thriving.

I think teachers have a very difficult job, and take my hat off to you people for the difficult job that you have to do every day. Children can and do use the system, they do not come with a set of Ikea flat pack wings and a halo, and it takes a special sort of person to perform the juggling act that is called being a teacher - especially with the government breathing down your neck all the time, telling you how to do the job that you were trained to do.

I think labels can be very helpful, but not when they are slapped on in a malicious way by someone who does not really know what they are talking about and is unqualified, as is what seems to have happened in Rina's case. I do think the JA need to realise that they have massive power at their disposal, and they need to use that power with great caution, and always in a spirit of love.
