My alarm clock went off, beeping loudly.I yawned & got out of bed.I looked at the alarm clock to see that it was 5:30 in the morning.Today was the day that I was going to adopt a 14 y/o girl named Emily.It was time to get up, so, I walked into my bathroom & took a quick shower.Then I got dressed & ready.By then, it was 6:00.I headed downstairs to the spacey kitchen in my house. I made breakfest, which was bacon, toast & eggs, for myself & my 2 daughters, Shannon & Samantha.5 minutes later, Shannon came pounding down the steps,
dressed like I was, in breeches, riding socks & a shirt.Shannon & I ate breakfest, then pulled on our tall boots & headed out to the barn.Shannon helped me feed the horses.Then we turned out the 2 horses that went out during the winter, Stafire & Dun It Again, mucked out the stalls, emptied & refilled water buckets, & finally swept the aisle.Now it was time to work the horses.I exercised Cally & Masterpiece, while Shannon exercised Star & Merry Man.With that done, we headed back up to the house, where Samantha had already got dressed & had eaten breakfest, & was watching TV."Samantha, honey, that sure is pretty wrinkly."Why don't you go change into another shirt?" I said to the little girl.The little girl looked down at her long-sleeved white shirt, which had a picture of a mare & her foal, grazing side by side in a meadow filled with beautiful flowers.Sammy shrugged & ran upstairs to change.Shannon & I took of our tall boots & headed upstairs to change also.I finished changing first, wearing a plain, red cardigan & a pair of jeans, with my hair back in a ponytail.Next, came down Shannon.She obviously took a little time on her appearance, since she was wearing a long-sleeved purple dress, with a cream colored sweater, & had her hair back in a bun.She was wearing her gold locket & a pair of earrings as well.Finally, Samantha came downstairs."I was looking for my second-favorite shirt," she said.The shirt happened to be a long-sleeved pink shirt, which had a purple border at the sleeves, collar & bottom.It had the words 'Princess' written on it, in silver beads, that had a purple border around it also."Do you think Emily's room looks ok?" I asked Shannon, for the 5th time."Mom," said Shannon, sounding exasperated, "it looks fine- FINE! chill." I raised my eyebrows at her.Shannon just gave me a mischievous smile."Ready to go?" I asked the 2 girls."Yep," said Sammy.Shannon nodded in agreement.We walked out to the car & got in.15 minutes later, we arrived at the adoption agency.I walked up to the front desk & said to the lady at the desk "I'm here to pick up Emily." The lady nodded & said "ok, I need to see some I.D first." I gave her my drivers license.Tha lady looked over it for a second, then handed it back to me & said "ok Ms. Smith, all of your paperwork is filled out, so all you need is Emily.I'll go get her, so just wait here fro a second.She's been expecting you, so she's all packed." I nodded & the lady walked through a door to our left.a couple of minutes later, the lady appeared with a blonde girl, that had piercing dark green eyes & was caryying a travel bag."Hi Ms. Smith," the girl said to me."Hi there Emily," I said back.I got a few things in order with the lady, & then Emily, Shannon, Samantha & I headed out to the car."You have a nice looking car," she said to me, admiring the silver Passat."Thank you," I said.Emily nodded once.We all got in, I let Emily have the passengers seat next to me.During the drive, Shannon, Samantha & I told Emily about Maple Wood Acres & the horses there.Shannon made sure that she described here horse, Starfire, very well.Eventually, we pulled into the driveway of Maple Wood Acres.Emily looked out the window, her eyes wide at the beautiful, but very large, farm."Welcome to Maple Wood Acres," I told her.I parked the car & we all got out.Emily followed us up to the house, travel bag in hand.I unlocked the front door, & we all went inside."Do you want the grand tour of the house?" Shannon asked Emily."Ok," she said, nodding."This is sort of our little entrance room thingy, very boring, moving on," Shannon said.She walked into the living room, "this is the living room," Shannon said, gesturing."The door to your left is the door to Samantha's playroom, in front of you, the glass doors lead to the porch, the door next to that leads to the bathroom..." Shannon went on to show her the rest of the house, Finally stopping the tour in Emily's new room."And this, is your room." Shannon told Emily.Emily's new room was pretty plain looking.There was a bed, it had flowered covers, a closet, a desk, a dresser, a bedside table, & a bookshelf.The walls were neutral colored, and the blinds were also neutral colored, along with lacy, cream colored curtains.There was wood flooring, instead of carpeting."You can fix it up however you want to," I said to Emily."Ok," said the 14 y/o girl.Emily set her travel bag down on the bed & took a moment to look around."Do you want to have a look at the stable now?" I asked her."Sure," said Emily.We all walked down to the main stable, where all of the horses(except for Star & Dun, who were in the pasture.) were."This is Smarty," said Shannon, pointing at the pinto colored mare."She's in foal to Merry Man, my mom's TB stallion." Next, was Cally's stall."This is Cally, she's my moms olympic prospect, but she's only 3 right now, so Cally has a ways to go." said Shannon."She's cute," Emily said."This is Masterpiece.He's a grand prix showjumping prospect of my moms." Shannon said to Emily."I decided to buy him cause he had so much potential & was selling for a good price." I said to Emily, "we've done all the chores for right now & we've ridden all of the horses, so there isn't muc to do down here right now.But tomorrow, I can give you a riding lesson.I'll let you ride Masterpiece." Emily looked at me & said "but he's your grand prix prospect.Are you sure you want me to ride him?" "He's a hand full to handle, & he's still in training for jumping, since he's only doing 2 foot hunter courses, but I think you can handle him just fine." I said."Thanks Ms. Smith," Emily said."Call me Dana," I insisted of her."Ok, Dana," the 14 y/o said.Lets go back up to the house now.Its cold out." I said, shivering, even though I had a jacket on.We all trudged back up to the house, where I started to make some hot cocoa for everyone.Shannon got out a video of of me riding in an old grand prix show...
