Subject: Watery Eye

Hi,
My chinchilla Cheech is 6 years old and has suffered for a very long time (maybe all his life) from a watery eye. It is always wet around his eye, damping his fur a bit. He sometimes has a bit of white discharge in the corner of his eye and if he does I wash it out. It does iritate him quite a lot. I took him to the vets years ago when it once swelled up horribly but he said it was just an infection and to wash it until the infection went away. The infection went away but he had a watery eye before that and he still does now. I really need to know how to make it better. I feed him properly, keep his cage VERY clean and he gets daily exercise.
Any help would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!
