I mentioned Shibendu thrice during the last weeks.

(1) Kev asked me for my comments on Yogananda calling himself Paramahansa. Hence I first had to read through the three threads relating to that topic. I found that your posts and line of argumentation in particular, criticizing Yogananda and SRF harshly, were clearly inspired by Shibendu, so I had to bring in Shibendu in my response; but I did so rather sparsely.

(2) In the present thread Sundarar asked about completing the Kriyas. I wrote a response. I do not believe that it was tendentious in any way, I just wanted to share what I know. In the last paragraph I mentioned that the Patravali letters hint at several Kriyas being practiced at the same time which is not - to my knowledge - what Shibendu teaches. Is it this that offended you? There is no criticism of Shibendu at all. In fact doing just one sort of Kriya at a time corresponds to completing just one cycle of Mantra at a time as Sundarar wrote. Go and see the post.

(3) During my holidays I was given a book by J.Krishnamurti to read. I was not little surprised to find parts of it practically identical to Shibendu right down to the wording. Shibendu has quite obviously copied off. Isn't it Shibendu who criticizes SRF ministers for lisping in the words of their guru instead of speaking from own experience??

Additionally these quotes presented a paradox in Shibendu's case, and I commented on that. According to Shibendu's/Krishnamurti's mindset Kriya should not bring about anything remarkable, so there is no reason to practice it, right? Shibendu says that realization happens in spite of Kriya -- he would do good to explain this in more detail, because it is the exact opposite of Kriya being a science, a myth that he also propagates. One can only conclude that he is talking nonsense, sorry. The outcome of this contradiction is that Kriya apparently depends on faith in the first place, but that is not politically correct for him to admit. Those who have faith in anything or anyone are likely to get criticized or mocked at for it, under the cloak of 'sanity' and being 'grown-up'. I wonder who is sane and grown-up here?

Few people who know Shibendu for a long time will question that he is a somewhat inconsistent character and unbalanced in his statements, personally I believe that it is due to his yoga practice. Sufficient reason for me to warn people, "Be cautious!" when it comes to coupling Kriya with Shibendu's way of beholding things.

I seriously believe that intense Kriya practice without proper guidance can lead to mental disorder, and I cannot judge whether Shibendu is a reliable guide that can steer you clear of danger. Therefore I say, "Be careful". I see the main danger in losing one's grasp of reality, which is clearly mirrored in the philosophical quagmire that he creates; I was myself infected by it for some time and it worked good for no one. The message seems to be, "Keep off!"

Anyone interested in his teaching of Kriya or Swadhyay may go to his web sites or see him for themselves. If there are people who find they profit from his company or teachings -- I know there are such people --, then it is all right for them. I have nothing to do with it. Please go and make your own experiences.

I hope we can close this part of the thread soon. Actually I am tired of discussing Shibendu. I do not know why it is not possible to mention him without provoking a discussion and afterwards justifying one's stance. Perhaps it is better to not mention him at all.

Hendrik
