EASTER SUNDAY AT BORREGO SPRINGS

"Easter weekend at Borrego Springs was a special yearly happening. We planned it for days. As usual, there would be from 18 to 20 people who would come for that week end. A number came from Los Angeles, some from San Diego and sometimes from as far as Europe.

Mother Lewis, the perfect, well organized, kind and generous hostess made everyone feel at home. Up to 10 or 12 persons were housed at the Lewis residence while others found lodging in Borrego. Persons who lived close enough would return home and come back the next morning. Most of the visitors, however, preferred staying in Borrego this wonderful week end. Those that stayed were there from Friday night to Sunday.

Some of the L.A. guests would drag in as late as 11 P.M. on Friday night. How tired they were after a long week at work, then the long drive to Borrego. But, come they did.

On Saturday morning everyone went to the chapel at the time they wished. The chapel was opened from 5 A.M. Brunch would be served at 10 A.M. So this gave everyone an opportunity to rest and to do their meditation at the time they desired

The Saturday before Easter Sunday there would be all sorts of activities by the guests. Perhaps a dip in the Jacuzzi, or a brave soul would take a swim. The water in the Jacuzzi was heated, but not the swimming pool because it would have taken to long for so much water to get warm. Most of us preferred the heated water in the Jacuzzi. Some guests took long walks while others returned to the chapel.

A delicious dinner was served early because we all returned to the chapel at 6 P.M. and had a good long meditation After the meditation each person went back to his or her room.

Easter Sunday morning we all gathered at the chapel at 7 A.M. John gave the opening prayer Brenda played the chants. We would have a lecture by Dr. Lewis and we all meditated until 11 A.M. After John gave the closing prayer we all returned to the main house and had a large, delicious Easter Sunday breakfast.

The house was beautifully decorated. Brenda and Alene Kent decorated the table with Easter Bunnies, candy, etc. Alene was especially good a decorations, and she and Brenda did a nice job of it.

As you might guess, it was a big job to keep so many people fed. Mama Lewis and I prepared some of the food in SD. We did most of the shopping in San Diego and on Thursday Mama and I would leave for Borrego. We always were the first ones there. She and I prepared all the rooms, beds, etc., for all the guests that would be arriving on Friday.

Most of the people that came rested, meditated and enjoyed. One or two helped to wash dishes, and an occasional person helped take the food to the table. I pretty much saw to all aspects of the preparation and serving of food.

Then, as all good things must come to an end, at about 3 or 3:30 P.M. Sunday afternoon guest began to take leave. They had had a restful, spiritual, wonderful week end. Mother Lewis had made this possible for all of us. She was a superior hostess throughout the entire time. She and I would head back for San Diego knowing we would come back next week end to ready the house for another visit by another group very soon. Meanwhile, she and I enjoyed having the house to ourselves."
