Subject: Sleeping positions

"According to Ayurveda, sleeping on your back disturbs the vata dosha, and sleeping on the stomach promotes disease because it blocks deep, healthy breathing. It is best to sleep on your right side (because it is the most relaxing) or on your left (because it promotes digestion). Also sleeping with the crown of your head facing east can promote meditative rest, and facing the crown south can improve your health by drawing energy into the body.

Scriptures warn against sleeping with your crown pointing west, however, since it promotes disturbing dreams, and to the north, because it draws energy out of the body."

paragraph from YOGA INTERNATIONAL issue no. 73 September 2003 'Everyday Ayurveda' by Shannon Sexton
