Subject: Shankarananda -are his initiations valid and who was his real teacher?

Some years ago I was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Shankarananda.I have since stopped using the Kriya he taught me because it seems that he's not really consistent in his teaching. I discovered this by talking to a number of other people he had initiated.
I am aware that sometimes the great masters modified their teaching in accordance with the capacity of the student and that their are a number of variations in the presentation of Kriya
(Yogananda's Kriya is slightly different from Lahiri mahasaya's Kriya for example).I am also aware that this is no real problem.
Shankarananda's instructions were not clear,and I took great pains to take down every word of his instructions.There was also some confusion over who exactly taught him .He told us that it was Narayan Maharaj others seem to insist that it was Hariharananda. Could anyone provide me with more information.
