Thanks Hendrik, this is a good analysis of the Kriya method. The change in the order of the techniques is quite interesting. Coincidentally, I read something recently that caused me to conclude that some Kriya lineages practiced hong-sau during the Dyan following Kriya pranayama, although I do not know this to be in fact true.

"There is also a substitute being part of SRF's Second Kriya, but not the real Kechari..."

Nabho mudra is mentioned in the Gheranda Samhita as giving many of the same benefits as Kechari mudra. This nabho mudra was described in Yogananda's very early (pre-1935) Kriya instructions, so he apparently was consistent over time regarding its inclusion in the curriculum.

"Modified or not - what does it matter when it is a fact that a large number of Yogananda's direct disciples made tremendous progress?"

Very true - the ultimate proof is the effficacy of the teaching. I agree that Yoganandaji passed on a very complete system.

Unfortunately, the impact of the Kechari promoters is to make some folks feel they are missing out...when in reality, it may be the Kechari folks who are missing out - by being so over-focused on that aspect of the practice -insofar as all the traditional writings seen to agree that one of the main purposes of the Kriya techniques, especially the higher Kriyas, is to reveal Nada, which provides the handle to liberation. Over focus on the physicality of a practice such as Kechari could certainly be a distraction from the experience of the subtle.
