Hendrick,
I have been away a few days and re-read my last response. My English wasn't very clear as I wrote it while in a hurry.
The following is a clarification of previous post.

Thokar translates roughly to a kind of "jerk" like motion. Omkar refers to (as you know), the manifestation of the inner sound (Surat Shabd, anahata, Nada, Pranava etc).
Omkar sound manifests in the second kriya as well as in the third(Omkar is further enriched in the third kriya). Therefore, some lineages may call second kriya as Omkar and third as
thokar, and vice versa. Both the second and third kriya involve Omkar sound manifesting. So it is easy to see why the terms may be interchanged. Moreover,if you know the actual techniques, then there is another reason for the names to possibly be
interchanged. Most assuredly, the actual techniques of second and third kriyas are taught in the same order in all lineages where integrety of kriya has been maintained.

In the first kriya alone, paravastha ("after affect poise of kriya" )will develop with assiduous practice. Therefore, Omkar will manifest even in the very first kriya--and with
continuous absorption of the mind in Omkar, then advanced stages of paravastha are attainable-- even without higher kriya 'techniques'. Higher stages of paravastha will definitely develop within the context of advanced practice of first kriya alone!

I am taking the time to write this because in my opinion, it is important for people to understand that Kriya Yoga is a sacred science and that the techniques are not just a "compilation of techniques from various traditions" as you are proposing, but a revealed science of Self-Realization--very carefully and sacredly handed down from Guru to Shishya.
