I wonder if Kaylee's absolute terror before he even began to speak wasn't part of the reason he treatened to rape her. Early obviously is used to terrorizing and injuring people to get what he wants. He wanted to keep Kaylee too scared to act, and he heard through eaves-dropping that she had frozen in a scary situation before. But, if Early were nothing, but downright evil, he could have killed her easily enough.

The scene on the couch reminds me strangely of the early days on Buffy when she and Angel were kissing. SMG and DB used to eat all kinds smelly food to gross each other out. If Jewel wanted to play that game, who knows where she could have put her foot before the cameras started rolling. There were probably some choice wisecracks on the set about that moment anyway. ;o)
