My comment on it being an actual product was in half-jest. I neglected to mention that it was displayed in the announcement section of the Firefly homepage (it replaces the text for a while) and was framed in the same style as much of Serenity's display panels are. In addition, the logo for this BlueSun are the words "Blue Sun" in the top half written in English, then "Blue Sun" in the bottom half written in Chinese.

All this evidence points towards something related to the series itself more than an outside advertiser. Whether this is actually plot related (as was the Internet presence of the episode "Help" in BtVS) or is simply something done to adorn the website is currently uncertain for me right now; but it is relatively invasive and would suggest to me that it is more than just adornment.

I just checked a minute ago, and the advert is still there. You might have to reload the homepage a few times before it appears though; it seems to randomly appear when I go to the site. Though I'm sure you all know it, the address is: http://www.fox.com/firefly.

Happy trails.
