Favorite character? Up until "Out of Gas," I might have picked someone else, but this was the episode that made me a Malcolm Reynolds fan. Well, this one and "Our Mrs. Reynolds."

Also, in typical Whedon fashion, our hero is the understated type so most viewers seem to feel they don't know him well enough to like him. He's the Buffy of Firefly. But "OoG" was all about Mal, really--why he picked these people, why they're important to him, and ultimately, why he picked "Serenity," and what it means to him.

Freedom, a dream, and true companions--what more could anyone want? Well, maybe a working whatsit part for the engine...
