Subject: Last week, I rewatched all of the episodes IN THEIR PROPER ORDER...
In reply to: JM 's message, "Re: Re-watching Firefly (spoilers for season)" on 15:31:39 12/29/02 Sun

...and, boy, does it ever make a difference! Even though the first group are stand-alone episodes, the story flows far better when viewed in the proper order (except for "Heart of Gold," which has not yet aired), because these characters' relationships more naturally progress and grow. Watching them in order I noticed, for example, that the first hints that Book may not be all that he seems start popping up earlier than when the Alliance rushed him to their medical unit; that when Kaylee held Book's hand when he was shot and said that he'd "done that for her once," she was referring to the events of the pilot; that the gang's first run-in with the Reavers was not in "Bushwhacked", etc etc. "Even things that we already saw in order make more sense. Watching the whole show in order hooked me on the show even more than I had been before. I was truly interested even in those episodes that had failed to knock my socks off on my first viewing, such as "The Train Job." Ironic, isn't it? If we'd been allowed to view the show in the correct order from the get-go, things might have been very different ratings-wise now.

For those of you who would like to experience the story in the right order as well, but don't know it, here's the list:

1-2) Serenity (2 hour pilot)
3) The Train Job
4) Bushwhacked
5) Shindig
6) Safe
7) Our Mrs. Reynolds
8) Jaynestown
9) Out of Gas
10) Ariel
11) War Stories
12) Heart of Gold (not yet aired)
13) Objects in Space
