Subject: I *hated* the theme song at first...
In reply to: CW 's message, "Give the lyrics time" on 12:23:47 06/20/03 Fri

I'm not a huge fan of country music to begin with, and the twanging kind of turned me off the first time I heard it. But now I adore it. In fact, I think Joss' lyrics and the music for "Firefly" is perhaps more fitting than even the music for "Angel" (which I also consider superior to the "Buffy" theme song).

The lyrics are utterly fitting and seem to give a feeling (bear with me as I get poetical) like emotions and virtues and experiences pared down to the core, everything burned away until you get this pure essence of meaning and message. The lyrics are simple, almost edging on trite -- but incredibly powerful once you get yourself in that mindset. It's very much Mal's song. And the melody is very singable, yet twisty enough to be very interesting composition-wise.
