Flashing a tired smile at Annalee, the golden mare extended her slender neck to touch lightly at her brightly hued companion's shoulder in thanks. It was customary for mares to congregate and tell the new mother how adorable her latest foal was, yet Tori heard the underlying sincerity in her friend's words. Gratitude, tinged by regret that she hadn't spent more time with Annalee, filled her, thankful that she had such an ally. A light breeze kicked up, mussing her already hopelessly tangled blonde tresses and irritating the gilded matriarch. But wait a minute... what was that smell? That oh-so-familiar scent. A painful twinge hit deep in Tori's heart. She'd know that scent anywhere -- comforting, agonizing, bittersweet, and as familiar as her own or her childrens. She wrenched her chiseled facade around to find the source of the scent, half hoping and half dreading to see if her suspicions were correct and not merely a figment of her exhausted brain.

Watching her mother's action with sharp green eyes, the pale filly took in the aura of comraderie between the mares, silently absorbing her first lesson in communicating with other equines. Her exquisitly carved face, delicate furred ears, and sooty teacup muzzle combined with her lanky, fine-boned frame gave her an appearance of exceptional beauty. But thoughts of her own countenance did not cross her mind as she watched the emotions play in her mother's troubled eyes. Peeking from around the mares' legs, she spied a lone figure, a figure that bore a striking resemblence to her deceased sibling. Blinking up at the palomino, Genesis waited, wondering what the next move would be.

Frozen in shock, the gilded mare simply stared, still unable to believe what she saw. Muttering for Annalee to "keep an eye on Gen, please", she stumbled away, on her way to confronting the apparition that was calling her name.
