Approaching quietly, with unsure steps and fading courage, the palomino slowly reached the presence of the former Light King. Time and apathy seemed to have worked their destructive magic on the once impressive stallion, reducing him to the shadow of his former splendor that now haunted her sight. Anguished eyes showed every bit of her inner turmoil, from the delight at seeing him again, to the fear of losing him once more, to the fury at his abandonment, to the sorrow of knowing she had to tell him of the loss of Oriden. Suddenly, she felt her age, her advanced years, and the burden that life had so unceremoniously dumped on her shoulders. The trials and tribulations seemed to weigh so heavily upon her now, making her seriously consider what he offered. To take Genesis and run away, away from the responsibility, away from the pain, away from the place that had brought her so much joy and pain. All of the myriad emotions warred deep within her, fighting for dominance, all equally matched and tearing her sanity to shreds. Eventually the anger won out, creasing her face unnaturally and placing a look of incredulity and fury where love an compassion usually reigned.

"Run away? Leave here? No Shazaam, I can't do that. I can't abandon my children and my friends for the promise of oblivion? What of Elven and Hex? Of Takara and Euphoria and Zackari? Of our friends and family that still live here? Would you abandon them just as easily as you abandoned me? Would you force me to leave them as if they meant nothing to me?"

Exhaustion took the place of anger, her features relaxed into a look of wistfullness and sorrow.

"I am sorry, my darling. For all of the affection and love I hold for you, I cannot turn my back on others. I cannot escape my confinement by underhanded or cowardly means and leave the Lights to suffer for my childish behavior. I cannot abandon Hex and Elven, grown as they are and establishing their own places in the world, to live a life devoid of their mother's love and guidance. Gods help me Shazaam, I cannot!"

Tears burst forth from the golden mare, sobs racking her frame and bringing her to her knees. All she wanted was standing before her, offering her an escape from the pain and sorrow that would be a daily reminder for the rest of her life. Once she would have followed Shazaam from the depths of Hell to the highest peak in Heaven, but not now. Too much rested on her weary shoulders for her to give into the temptation that he presented. Refusing to meet his gaze lest her heart shatter even more than it already had, she kept her head down, tears streaming down her graying features and pooling on the unforgiving ground. He had made his decision and she had made hers -- where would that lead them now?
