2. excluded lawyers, bankers, liquor dealers, and professional gamblers
C. Dissolution of the Knights of Labor
1. organization remained a secret for several years
2. 1870’s Terence V. Powderly – new leader of union
a. organization moved into the open and expanded
3. 1886 – over 700,000 members
4. by 1890 – membership shrunk to 100,000
5. a few years later organization disappeared
