-people left the declining agriculture area of the east to go to west or to cities
-many women left the farms and went to the cites
-southern blacks also made a migration
-urban blacks tended to work as janitors,cooks,domestic servents
*African-American Communities
-there was a good number of communities
-the communities paved the way for the great population movement of the future
*Immigrants
-10 million came in 1860 to 1890
-some from canada,mexico,latin america& west coast of china&japan
-mostly from europe
-after 1880 1st time italians,greeks,slavs,slovaks,russian jews,armenians,&others
-most lacked capital to buy farmland
-lacked in education
-most took unskilled jobs
