: Dan Fogelberg, Woodruff High School
By Billy Dennis

Meeting is starting soon. Phil Luciano is here to get a proclamation in regards to his efforts to get a headstone for grave of man who played Salty Sam on television.

I just learned that Abingdon Road (known in the neighborhood as Abingdon Hill) be be honorarily renamed Dan Fogelberg Parkway. This would run from Prospect Road down to the bottom of the hill, past Woodruff High School, which the world-famous singer attended.

The ceremony would likely be held in the morning on Wednesday, Sept. 9. It would precede the “Fall Music Festival at Glen Oak Park: A Tribute to Dan Fogelberg,” which will be held at the Glen Oak Amphitheater from 2-10 p.m. on Sept. 13.

The is an honorary renaming. Mail addresses will NOT change.

Bob Manning, 3rd District council member, would like to make it official sometime in the future, but there’s no time to that before the music festival. He and others would like to see any future Fogelberg Parkway run down the current Frye Avenue from the intersection with Wisconsin Avenue, down Abingdon. This way, the parkway would run in front of Glen Oak School, where his mother taught music, and Woodruff, where his father was band director.

Manning will make an announcement at the end of the council meeting.
