Bespectacled
and bemused
he stood,
with fumbling walk
and tightened grip,
walking stick
with ivory head,
loose belted trousers,
And cap on head.
Knurled hands grasping
cataract blurred eyes
once hailed the hero
now just despised
the handsome brave soldier
the second world war
oh how they loved him
now just ignored
for king and for country
you're country needs you
he wished that he died then
and they wish it too
for now he's a burden
a relic, a pain
his future is past now
and won't come again.....
