It is really sad to see the direction pagentry for children has taken. I have a 22 year old daughter that competed until last year. We loved the pageant world and usually had a great time. I am so glad that when she was competing in childrens pageants that it was not like it is today. The glitz pageants have little girls competing in fake hair, teeth, eyelashes, etc and tons of make-up. The dresses and other competition wear is way overdone. I would never have been able to aford to pay $1000.00 for a dress when she was little and as a result she would never have had the joy of competition. She grew in confidence at each pageant we did, win or lose, and as a result she has the confidence to tackle many things she would never have had the courage for if she had never had this experience. I would really love to see the whole process go back to a simpler time and moms support pageants that allow children compete on their merits and not how expensive their dress is or who can afford the best photographer to re-touch photos that end up looking nothing like the child. I just don't understand the mindset anymore. I still believe the world of pagentry has a lot to offer children but not the way it is now. Sorry but I just had to post. I have been lurking a long time because the pageant world still interests me and occasionly my daughter and I attend just to see what is going on. We are both discouraged and would not ever subject a child to this type of competition. I now have a new grandson that is adorable but there is NO WAY!
