The following is an interesting speech given three years ago by Sir Oliver Wright, the former UK Ambassador to Washington. It basically surmises that the EU was a mistake and we should instead be forming closer links with the English-speaking world, and not just the US, given his prior position.

I am reminded of a quote by Margaret Thatcher a few years ago. To paraphrase, she said “Britain’s problems have come from the continent of Europe, while all our solutions have come from the English-speaking world”. This comment was regarded as being controversial for some reason.
