] Date Posted: 11:57:08 11/29/04 Mon In reply to: Roberdin 's message, "Brilliant, but other realms should not be punished for being different" on 22:28:21 11/26/04 Fri I agree with that, Roberdin. I think, however, that other realms can be invited in only once: 1) the federation/union has been established between CANZUK first. 2)the other realms other realms show a desire to join CANZUK and fulfill certain conditions set by CANZUK. Take, for example, the Bahamas. They are actually rather a rich country through tax-haven policies and tourism. It has one of the largest merchant fleets in the world but if it were a member of the federation it would have to change its regulations to red-ensign standards which would lead to considerable loss of revenues for them. Also, there is no evidence that they would experience increased tourism from the rest of the federation to compensate for this. If they decide that entry into the federation is worth persuing despite the probable economic setbacks, the only other option would be subsidies, which are not necessarily worth paying as it it not strategically located for our purposes and our military has close to full access on demand anyway. Also, if we were to start subsidising the Bahamas, why not that economic wreck Jamaica? People would not like to pay for that (right or wrong) and the richer countries would then want to leave the union the same as happened to the original commonwealth. (o.k. this is a simplified and worst case scenario) I have no objections to realms wishing to join later as long as they are economically self sufficient and really wish to commit to a union 100% [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
