Hello there,

A few notes and reminders especially for those who could not be there Friday night.

1. The march medley is sounding really good. The tone is holding and we are playing phrase endings expression. We are slowing down in Jenny's Bawbee and speeding up in Flett. That will be easy to fix at practice. I feel like we are being overly cautious with Jenny's Bawbee. I would rather think of putting more life into the tune than simply keep the tempo up. Flett from Flotta just needs to be kept at the same tempo.

2. The Selection Medley needs A LOT of work. A lot of it will fall into place once everybody gets the tunes down. Fine tuning execution and expression is difficult until that happens.

3. We have taken the birls out of the first part of the strathspey in the selection medley. Just play a g grace note in their place. This creates an excellent opportunity to express the beginning of the tune effectively. Hold the first F as long as you can stand it and then sit on the low g quarter note. Judges will marvel at our expression.

4. The low a transition from the strathspey to the reel will now be held for exactly 2 reel beats. We are not going to guess about when to start the reel.

There are a few newbies to pipe band competition (rumor has it that one of us has never even SEEN a pipe band competition). Make sure you ask questions if you have any. Use this forum.

Mike
