I had the same problem. Sometimes the Dell cpx has a bad keyboard connection to the motherboard. Just remove the keyboard by unscrewing the screws marked "K" underneath the laptop. pull out the keyboard and reconnect the wire to the motherboard. It just plugs in much like the battery of a cordless phone. Gook luck.
