Subject: radeon 9000 banding issues

Hello!! I've just got a spanky new laptop! YaY! apart from some (OK lots....) of teething trouble everything seems hunky-dory (apart from bloody DVD/CD Combo drive only burning at 8 speed etc etc.) I've tried checking the official dell forums today and they appear to be down - nice one dell! Anyway sarcasm aside, I've been reading up about banding issues with the radeon 9000 mobility and I can whole-heartedly say my machine suffers! I live with a lead games programmer and a CG Animator and they assure me 32bit graphics should appear smooth and silky not bandy like on my machine. What I need is a third opinion on installing the updated VBIOS that I've downloaded from Dell - is it worth the risk of frying my Graphics card? I bought SOF2 to test my system and it runs lovely after some tweaking (apart from the banding....) and I'd like to appreciate it in all its head popping glory!! any advice would be gladly received - thanks
