Michael Jackson Postpones Planned Trip to Britain

"He has not left yet," said Stuart Backerman, Official Spokesperson for Michael Jackson. "He may now wait until after Christmas, wanting to spend Christmas with the family in the United States and leave afterwards, or he may decide in the end that it�s too much for him to travel at this time."

Mr. Backerman strongly denied that the trip can been cancelled due to an outcry by a British MP and the press.

"The fact that he�s delayed his trip does not mean he isn�t going," Backerman said. "If he doesn�t go, it�s because of his own personal desire to stay in the US over Christmas time".
"Michael is very well aware of the fact that, given his celebrity, there are people who love him and people that don�t. But you don�t live your life trying to please the people who don�t love you."

Mr. Backerman stated that the outcry in Britain "doesn�t bother him one bit because he knows he�s innocent, knows who he is inside and is confident about himself." If the trip goes ahead, it would be a "private vacation in addition to his contractual obligations."
