Ok... I'll admit it. It was me. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! :D

You shoulda been up here on Sat night. We went grocery shopping after I got home from work. I guess it was around 6pm when we left and it had started to snow. Lightly. There was a slight dusting just starting to accumulate. I didn't really think much of it. How much snow can one get in just 2 hrs??? (That night, not much, but it wasn't the amount!) I figured we'd be back home before the roads got bad.

Coming out of the store, we saw that there was a good dusting down, and it was still snowing. The first part of the trip home was just fine. We were about 4 mi from home when we came upon the first accident. Flashing red lights and stopped traffic up ahead. Great. We decided to turn around. We backtracked a few miles and picked up another road which would bring us home from the north side. And it was a little longer. Oh well.

Slow going, but it was ok. Until we got to a long hill. Up ahead we saw stopped traffic. Oh just wonderful. (sigh!) Two pickups on the shoulder and a car spinning its wheels trying to go around them. Pickup coming along behind me. Another car coming down the hill. We stopped alongside the 2 pickups. The guys from the 1st pickup tried to help push the guy in the car. Too slippery. We just sat there. And waited. And waited. A cop came along in an SUV. He just sat there alongside the guy in the car, facing downhill. Finally he left. He must've turned around, cuz then he came back up the hill, passed all of us, and disappeared over the hill. Finally, the pickup men tried pushing the car again, and got him going... sort of. He got stuck again, but he was more to the side. So we tried to go. No traction. The pickup men pushed us, and it worked! Yay. We slowly went on our way. Very carefully.

A few miles ahead, we came upon a minivan. So I stayed a ways behind him. We began a descent. I saw him put his blinker on to turn left, but all I saw was a cornfield. I thought, "Where does he think he's going?" Then he started fishtailing and then he was sideways in the road! And sliding down the hill! Eeeekk! I started to brake, and felt my car fishtail a little bit. I have traction control on my car, which is really great, and I saw a driveway. So I went to pull in there so as not to hit the minivan still sideways in the road and now stopped. He just missed hitting a phone pole! A pickup behind me saw us and he hit his brakes and went sideways in the road. The SUV cop went by again. And continued on. I just sat until the guys sideways in the road straightened themselves out and left. Then I backed out of the drive and went on.

Further down the hill and around a bend I could see more red lights! Just great! And it was at the bottom of a valley, so that meant I had another hill to go up. Ugh. But it was ok, cuz by the time we got there, it was clear... guess the drivers got themselves situated. We went on up the hill no problem. We finally got home a little while later. At nearly 10pm!!! So that's when we had dinner, after putting away the groceries.

What a night! I really don't need that kind of excitement in my life! Next time I see that it's snowing out, I'm not leaving the house!
