It isn't exactly my choice to geld him. It's being done mostly because of the complaints of a boarder or two to our landlord/barnlord. Our colt escaped from his own field a while back and into a neighboring field that contained a mare. Being only 30" tall, he really can't do anything. But he, I guess (according to their claims), chased the mare around a little and she somehow ended up with some scratches on her leg. Nothing major, just superficial ones that healed in no time. That mare is no longer boarded here as her owner found a place closer to her home to board her mare. Our colt is in a field with my own mare, and he doesn't even try anything with her. My goal was to eventually get a couple mini mares for him and breed and show mini's. But I guess that won't be happening. I can at least train and show him, though. Since the episode with that one mare, our colt hasn't bothered any other horses. But even so, our landlord is pestering us about gelding him or moving him out. And so, I was kind of forced into this. Oh well. I'd rather keep my little guy instead of finding him a new home. :)
