Jamie buckled the throat latch, and they were ready to go! She led Baby out into the big arena, and led her over to a mounting block. "I don't really need this, do I, Baby?" she said, laughing at the distance between the top step of the mounting block and the saddle. She went to each side, pulling down the stirrups and checking the length.
Making sure they were equal lengths and would fit her, she checked the girth. Finding it loose, she pulled it tighter, then checked it again. "All set," she said, approving of it this time. She put the reins back over Baby's head, then put her left foot in its stirrup and pulled herself up.
She stood for a few seconds, putting all her weight in her stirrups to make sure they were good, then sat into her saddle. Immediately, she gathered the reins, and automatically straightened and adjusted her posture and seat.
Ready to start moving, she nudged Baby's side with her calf, and said, "Walk."
