What is the whole story?
There was already a lot of bad feeling that the Shrews players with all their cards from the last match brought to the game. The Bridgnorth girls were not hyped up and were friendly and were even noticed to laugh and smile a little during the match. An atmosphere was created by some of Shrews supporters - a typical example would be say a 50-50 ball, no foul intended or committed but the Shrews player was on the floor - a Shrews supporter would shout - 'come on ref, she left her foot in..'. Imagine 20 or 30 similar comments over the 90 minutes.
At the end of any sports match everybody shakes hands whatever has happened on the pitch good, bad indifferent - and thats the end of it. Imagine a senior player (who had only played the 1st half) instead of shaking hands decides that a physical assault on one of the beaten opposition (they were both team mates the previous season) is in order.
If you want a good first hand account of what happened ask the Shrews managers wife.
