Hmm. This world of Dracnador was inspired by Celtic Myth at first... and then I just warped it to suit my needs. Different areas/races are based on a variety of things- Autumhome and Ironoak are loosely based on Robin Hood stories and the Celts, Anteroch (the Dragon-god Bloodmaw's kingdom) is based on something like the British influence in the American colonies.... the "Red Cloaks" being the infantry (I know it is a little cheesy...). Another empire will be based on the Aztecs, probably a Black dragon, and I'd like to have a Blue dragon empire based around an Egyption-like culture (be hard to fit in a world full of forest though...). Tolkein is an influence on the elves (Rhihaellyn), as are Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's elves in one of the books of the Death Gate Cycle (that is where the idea of the elven Keeper of Souls come from). Of course, any novel I'v read, too many to name, probably has some sort of influence. My other world of Fayon was heavily influenced by Tolkein early on (as well as stories about the Grey Mouser and Ffafrd) and Robert Jordan in the later stages. I have recently become intrigued with Cthulthu and plan on working that into Dracnador... has a lot to do with this "Darkness" that twisted the world and races so long ago. Ravenloft is also going to be used in an interesting way. I like this kind of stuff too...
