My son was recently incarcerated in a county jail in Oklahoma.They reported his death on 02/16/2007.The paper states that it was apparent suicide.That he was found hanging in a cell at around 6:00 p.m. A time that is usually very active I would think.Right after dinner I guess.We do not know the details as of yet.But I can't understand for the life of me how this could ever happen.All I know is that if I was watching your mom in a nursing home or your child in a daycare or even at home or responsible for the well being of any prson and they died because I wasn't watching them I would be held totally accountable.My son is gone it is too late for him.But what is being done, what has been done in the past.It's time to take a very indepth look at this in all facilities.Especially facilities that house people in public and government facilities.This is news only because of the name of my son being different and the date being different.But it is the same old story other than that.This facility is a very new facility.Very large and costly,built to detain.Somewhere along the way we lost sight of the idea that inmates are people too.Their lives are just as important as ours is. Who can tell me what is being done to stop this? All I can do is try to help in every way possible to see that this is not going to happen to someone else.I support your efforts and ask that if you know of ways to help us succeed in stopping these unnecssary deaths please e-mail me at rev.Willson @yahoo.com.I beleive that as soon as an inmate is booked for any reason that they should be getting his life story ,not just hi criminal record or rap sheet.They should knoweverything about all inmates that is to be known.All this info should already be available to them via computer the same as their rap sheet is.They should be screened medically.and mentally as well as criminal background screening.The first report in the local news there was pretty obvious that the only information that was of any interest concerning his death was his rap sheet.This is a dismay to me and to his family.
