Yeah? Who. The whole idea has me uneasy, w/all our nation's history of stock market crashes. So gimme some good examples. Calm my uneasiness.

One thing people need to know, too... the idea of the system crashing by 2042 is sort of a misnomer. By 2042, they'd only be able to shell out 75% of the benefits. It just starts to deteriorate by 2042...not "crash."

Ronald Reagan managed to tweak the system with what many pundits call one of the best examples of "across the aisle" compromise in recent history. He agreed to raise taxes a bit to cover a future shortfall while Tip O'Neil agreed to push the House and Senate to vote to push the retirement age back.

Too bad there's not that kind of political harmony coming from the White House or Congress.
