THE ACTUAL REND LAKE BEACH BLAST RUNS FROM 12-4. HERE IS SOME OF THE FUN YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS (BROUGHT TO YOU BY REND lAKE)The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has planned for Saturday, June 2, some family fun in the sun with a day of games and adventure in store for all who attend the annual Rend Lake Beach Blast at the North Marcum Beach. The Rend Lake Beach Blast is a great opportunity for family members to learn how to stay safe around the water while having some good ol' fashion fun.

This year's Beach Blast will include:
- Welcome from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, music by Sound Core Music, sign up for sand castle building contest (participants must bring their own buckets and castle accessories)

- Our search for Little Miss and Mister Rend Lake Beach- Children/Teen Pageant (entry fee)

- Cool Hand Luke: hypothermia demonstration.

- Dress the Beach Geek: life jacket, safety equipment relay.

- Beach Blanket Bingo: water safety trivia bingo game.

- Nerf Volleyball and Water Safety Balloon Pop: going on simultaneously.

- Nerf Volleyball and Water Safety Limbo: test your knowledge and see "how low can you go?"

- Music and sand castle contest judging.

- Watermelon: donated by Herrin Mad Pricer, Sesser Foodland, West Frankfort and Mt. Vernon Kroger, and Borowiak's IGA in Mt. Vernon.

Additional activities ongoing throughout the day include: child find IDs by the Modern Woodmen of America Chapter from Sesser, and check out the equipment used by the Rend Lake Search and Rescue Association. Raffle drawings will be held throughout the day.

So, get a swimsuit on, grab the towels and the sunscreen and head on out to Rend Lake's North Marcum Beach. The fun starts at noon. The event is free to everyone.
