I picked this off the lore section of the AC2 site.
The Three Kingdoms
Ironically, the races were able to unify before the Devastation, only to find the world split along new ideologies. Thus, Kingdoms are not divided along racial lines. Characters of any race--Human, Lugian, or Tumerok--may join any Kingdom:
The Order of Dereth. Exemplified by Lord Asheron and Queen Elysa Strathelar themselves; the Order of Dereth maintains the ideals of goodness and progress.
The Shadow Kingdoms. Exemplified by the Shadows, who do not condone evil, per se. Rather, they reject the concepts of rules and boundaries, coupled with a strong sense of self-interest. Bael'Zharon the Dread Hopeslayer, a major entity before the Devastation, was said to have aligned with the Shadows; however, his traitorous general Isin Dule better represents their more neutral leanings.
The Dominion. Exemplified by the Virindi. This Kingdom falls along the lines of absolute lawfulness and empire (some may dare go so far as to say along the lines of fascism).
These ideologies, you'll note, are not cleanly divided between good and evil. Players with a heroic view of their purpose can find a place in any Kingdom. Even those with a more sinister view can fit in. . . though unlikely, in their case, with the Order of Dereth. Allegiances may even be composed of vassals sworn to opposing Kingdoms, though this may introduce interesting conflicts within the Allegiance as it grows.
